Seeing her friend run out of solutions after her cat got stuck in a sewer, a woman took the risk of sneaking in to try to save it. A courageous and selfless act which earned him a trip to the hospital.
In New South Wales (southeastern Australia), a woman volunteered to save her friend’s cat, trapped in an underground conduit for several days. In doing so, she injured herself and had to seek treatment in hospital. The feline escaped safely after the arrival of emergency services, reported 9 News on Thursday, May 11.
The events took place in the town of Blaxland . A local resident named Marni Zavaleta was worried after noticing her pet, a tuxedo cat called Pushkar , was missing . She had finally located him; the quadruped was stuck in a sewer.
After calling for help without success, she received help from Dianne Newnan , a friend accustomed to exploring caves and narrow cavities. Attached to a rope, she descended into the conduit and slowly progressed there, but was surprised by a 2 meter hole into which she fell. In her fall, she hit her head hard.
She saw Pushkar , but the cat was out of her reach. However, she could see that he was not injured. The quadruped “ just sat there and looked at me ,” says Dianne Newnan . Marni Zavaleta contacted emergency services again, and a fire crew arrived on the scene shortly after.
“I don’t know anyone who would have done that.”
Dianne Newnan, however, managed to get out of the sewer on her own. She then went to hospital, where her head injuries were treated.
In the meantime, firefighters managed to recover the cat safe and sound and return it to its owner.
“ You’re wonderful, I don’t know anyone who would have done that ,” said an extremely grateful Marni Zavaleta to Dianne Newnan .
