Delilah Day lived a charmed life for a decade. A beloved, beautiful, long-haired Manx with crystalline sky-blue eyes who never had any worries. She was a queen to her cat dad. And her only job was bestowing purrs and cuddles, which she loved to do.
“Senior foster Delilah Day and her adorable nub tail.💗💗💗” rescuer Beth Stern shared.
But then, one day, her dad had to go into a nursing home and sadly wasn’t able to bring the cat with him. It must have been heartbreaking for him to leave his companion behind. Not long afterward, he passed away.
Without another family member to take Delilah, her entire future was suddenly called into question. It’s a good reminder to include plans for pets in your will. Without a carefully detailed trust plan that designates a specific caretaker, and funds intended for their use only, pets could end up in a shelter.
Without a well-made plan, your wishes for a pet’s future could be cast aside in the courts, as we’ve unfortunately seen before. If in doubt, talking to a lawyer with experience in the matter is a good idea.
What Would Happen to Delilah Day?
In this case, Delilah Day was extremely fortunate despite so many things that could have easily gone wrong. Even so, separated from all she knew, Delilah Day was distressed and sad. Yes, a cat’s bond with their human can be profoundly deep, and she was probably heartbroken.
But she didn’t end up in the shelter. Luckily she found a place with rescuer Beth Stern, who fell in love with her right away.
“There’s just something extra special about senior cats and dogs who have lost their loving humans. They seem so sad. I can’t wait for Delilah Day to have another forever loving home.💞”
“Delilah Day is so special. We are all in love with her. Her human who recently passed away obviously adored her and treated her so well.💞,”
At 10 years old, Stern wanted to be sure the kitty didn’t have ongoing health issues. A trip to the vet was in order, and the cat handled it really well, charming everyone around her.
“How ca-uuute is senior foster Delilah Day with Dr. Alex for her wellness exam?!!!! 💗💗💗💗 She was such a good patient!”
More Big Changes Come
In good health and safe in her foster home, Delilah Day adjusted to a new routine. There were many new friends to meet. But it wasn’t long before she was ready to find a new furever human family. Online, everyone was thrilled to see this cat get a chance for a new life.
“Guess what, everyone?! Today is my forever family day!!!! My first human is surely smiling from above!🌹 😊” Stern shared.
“The holes in the carrier make it look like she has wings!” noticed one person.
It looked like everything was going to be just fine for her, but more big changes were about to come.
Suddenly Back in Foster Care
Almost a month later, a familiar face unexpectedly appeared in Stern’s posts! There was Delilah Day, returned after things didn’t work out in her new home. However, there was a plan in place to help her. As part of the adoption agreement, an adopted cat can be returned to their foster home if it doesn’t work out. That’s what Delilah’s family chose to do, but it was upsetting to see she’d have to go through more confusion and instability.
“Unfortunately, sometimes my fosters get returned. Our adorable Delilah Day is back with us. Sometimes it’s just not a right fit and we are very grateful her adopter reached out to us and i will always take a foster back. (It’s actually in our adoption agreement). I always feel responsible and sad that I let the cat down. My heart aches for this sweet kitty who has had so much change lately. We got this, Delilah Day!”
A New Delilah Day Begins
So much change is stressful for anyone, but now it was a “new Delilah Day.” Things were looking up again.
“So much change and confusion lately for this sweet girl… don’t worry, today is a new Delilah Day.🎀”
In the days following her return, Delilah needed comfort, TLC, and time with her foster mom. So she lounged and watched Animal Planet with her foster mom.

Meanwhile, thousands were rooting even harder for this senior kitty. And with all the support and well-wishes, it wasn’t long before she got another chance. Sometimes, senior cats wait for years to find a home, but she found two homes in short order! This time, it was the one meant for her.
“Look who is forever home this time… our glorious Delilah Day!!! To follow: @missdelilahday 💗😊💗😊” Stern shared.
After so many ups and downs, Delilah Day was back to the familiar life of a much-loved house cat. While it usually takes as long as three months for a cat to fully adjust to a new home, she was doing great in about a week!
And after everything she experienced, Delilah wasn’t about to let her new mom go anywhere! You can follow on Instagram to see what she’s up to today. We’re so happy for “Miss Delilah” and can clearly see she adores her new mom.
“🐾 🤍 Bean Kisses . If she can’t find an arm she’s been doing this a lot lately, keeping her paw on my mouth 🥰” shared Delilah’s mom.
“When it’s time to get up, that’s when I like to get into bed and lay on my mommy so she can’t get up .. Please excuse my bed head 😸.”
