Today, I discovered a small cat lying amidst the garbage on the foul-smelling grass. Its ginger fur was stained dark, either by blood or dirt—I couldn’t tell anymore. The cat lay helpless, clutching a small stone like a toy, its lifeless eyes staring into nothingness.
Flies swarmed around it, relentlessly attacking the festering wounds. I couldn’t fathom why it had fallen into such a wretched state, but its condition was undeniably dire.
Soon, the cat began to experience seizures and delirium, unknowingly clutching the stone as if it were its mother. The poor creature must have been in immense pain, longing for its mother’s comforting presence. I called out to it, and miraculously, the cat stirred from its dreamlike state. As if understanding my words, it summoned all its strength to stumble towards me, struggling against the incessant swarm of flies.
It seemed the small kitten had endured prolonged starvation, devouring the food I brought with voracious hunger. As I lifted it, I was genuinely shocked and nauseated. Its body was covered in a slimy substance, with hundreds of gnats buzzing around. How could it bear such excruciating agony?
We used a bit of water from the bottle I carried to wash away the gnats, causing the cat to shriek in fear and thrash about. I knew it was crucial to get the cat to a hospital as quickly as possible. Without wasting another second, we immediately rushed the cat to the nearest clinic.
It was only a newborn kitten, too tiny to even stand on its own. The tests revealed malnutrition and a severe cold. But that wasn’t all; the most horrific discovery was a large laceration on its tail. The doctor suspected it was a deliberate act inflicted by a human before callously tossing it onto the grass.
The poor little cat was incredibly well-behaved during its careful bath, gently cleansed under the warm water. After everything, it was given antibiotics, and ointment was applied to its tail. It was now ready to return home.
The exhausted little cat fell asleep in my hands, seeking solace. Today had surely been a long day for it. Sleep tight, dear little soul. When you wake up, the pain will be nothing but a nightmare of the past.
