“I never lost faith”: Three years later, a cat longed for by its owner emerges, desperately seeking reunion.
Gus, an 11-year-old cat, always liked to venture around his neighborhood, but he always ended up going home. His last escapade, however, lasted more than 3 years.
A cat that disappeared in 2019 recently resurfaced and was reunited with its family, The Patriot Ledger reported .
Gus , an 11-year-old tabby feline, was adopted by his Meaghan Swetish when he was just a little kitten . The family then left Vermont (north-eastern United States) to settle a little further south, in Scituate , Massachusetts.
The cat used to go out. He would sometimes be gone for a day or two before coming back. “ He was always a wanderer ,” says his owner. He’s extremely social and very friendly with people .” Often he went to visit neighbors, who knew him and welcomed him warmly. Some even posted photos of him on social media.
However, as time passed, Gus tended to move away. Then he ended up disappearing completely.
“ Of course we were worried ,” confides Meaghan Swetish , “ but it was such a part of his personality that we always knew he would come back. He would come back and we would try to keep him inside but each time he would slip out the door and go back to his usual wanderings .”
“It was still a bit surprising”
This time there was cause for concern. More than 3 years passed, and the cat was nowhere to be found. Until mid-November 2022, when a passerby saw him limping in the street. The person informed the local shelter , the Scituate Animal Shelter , where a volunteer and friend of Meaghan Swetish immediately recognized the animal.
“ I was moved ,” said Gus ’ mistress . I never doubted he was there somewhere, but after 3 years I was thinking about coyotes and cars […]. It was still a bit surprising .”
His companion therefore returned home. The family makes sure that he doesn’t come out again for a while. Gus gets along pretty well with the other cat in the household. He can now peacefully live out his old days with his family.
