Jill Duggar Reveals She and Husband Derick Had to Reenact Their Proposal for 19 Kids and Counting Filming

Jill Duggar Dillard is reminiscing about her engagement to husband Derick Dillard as they celebrate 11 years since their proposal. On March 31, Jill, 33, posted a heartfelt Instagram tribute to commemorate the milestone, sharing a series of photos from their engagement and behind-the-scenes moments from their 19 Kids and Counting episode.

In her post, Jill recalled the engagement taking place on a “beautiful Saturday” in Bentonville, Arkansas. “I couldn’t be more thankful to have @derickdillard by my side through the ups and downs of life! LYSM babe! 💗,” she wrote.

Jill also shared a fun tidbit about filming the proposal for TLC, revealing that they had to reenact the moment to ensure the crew captured the perfect shots. “We had to reenact it again to make sure the crew had everything they needed from all the camera angles,” she joked. She added that they faced a small mix-up when they first arrived at the square, as the crew didn’t immediately recognize them as the couple involved in the shoot. “At first they said, ‘I’m sorry, there’s a film shoot happening right now, so we can’t let you on the square for a minute.’ But they let us pass once we let them know we were part of the shoot.”

Although Jill had an inkling that Derick, 35, would propose that day, she admitted she didn’t know exactly when it would happen. But Derick had some special surprises in store. She explained that their producer, who was friends with country singer Walker Hayes, had Hayes and his band perform a song about their love story in the square just before the proposal.

The couple, who married three months later in June 2014 in Springdale, Arkansas, now have three sons: Samuel Scott, 7; Frederick “Freddy” Michael, 2; and Israel David, who will turn 10 on April 6. Tragically, in April 2024, Jill and Derick experienced the stillbirth of their daughter, Isla Marie.

Through the ups and downs, the couple continues to celebrate their journey together, sharing moments of joy and reflection with their fans.
