Artists like Janet Jackson, P Diddy and Missy Elliott have paid emotional tribute to American singer-actress Aaliyah on her 14th death anniversary. Aaliyah died on August 25, 2001 in a plane crash. She was 22. Her celebrity friends took to Instagram and Twitter to remember her, reported Aceshowbiz.
Jackson, who was often cited by Aaliyah as one of her biggest musical influences, posted on Instagram a picture of a handwritten note dedicated to the “Journey to the Past” singer. It read, “What I shared with you (is) ever sacred, everlasting, (and) it’s pure and it will endure. I love you Aaliyah. #RIP.” A caption for the picture read, “I know you are there shining down on me. #ConversationsInACafe.”
To honour the late singer, Diddy posted a throwback picture showing him striking a pose with her. “#RIPAaliyah,” read the caption. The picture was taken at the backstage of 2001 MTV Movie Awards after the two read the nomination for Best Dance Sequence. Elliott wrote on Twitter, “RIP Baby Girl,” alongside a screenshot of an old article in which the rapper referred to Aaliyah as an “angel” and “sweet person with great, incredible talent.”
Meanwhile, DL Hughley, who was going to play Aaliyah’s songs on his radio show, tweeted, “Remembering Aaliyah today, what’s your favorite song? Find out what DL & the crew have to say.”
